Paula Brackston's second installment in her Little Shop of Found Things series is a winning combination of mystery, suspense, magic, time travel, and heartachingly difficult choices that confront Xanthe。 Bittersweet romance, a cunning villain, and obligations that span the vast distance between centuries will keep readers up well past their bedtime and leave them eager for the next adventure Brackston has in store for Xanthe。 I received an advanced copy of Secrets of the Chocolate House by Paula Brackston from NetGalley for my honest review。

I enjoyed this book much more than I did the first one。 I am a fan of time travel books and I thought that Brackston handled the subject well。 I love Xanthe as a character and I think she is written in a way that is easy for the reader to relate with her。 I love the idea of objects finding her and being the way that she travels through time。 The inclusion of other time travelers and it being some kind of secret society with its own rules was interesting to read about as well。 I am really excited I enjoyed this book much more than I did the first one。 I am a fan of time travel books and I thought that Brackston handled the subject well。 I love Xanthe as a character and I think she is written in a way that is easy for the reader to relate with her。 I love the idea of objects finding her and being the way that she travels through time。 The inclusion of other time travelers and it being some kind of secret society with its own rules was interesting to read about as well。 I am really excited to continue reading about Xanthe's adventures in the third and final installment in this series。 。。。more

I literally judged this book by its cover。 I was walking through a book store and the cover caught my eye。 I pulled it up on the library app and put it on hold right then。 It did not disappoint。 A great mix of historical fiction and mystical story。。。An easy, fun pandemic read。

First, I had no idea what this was about, but the title intrigued me, even the cover was interesting (I like good cover art, what can I say)So this gal in 2018 is able to time travel, and she saves lives。。。 she purposely goes back to a time to save a man she fell in love with, via a chocolate pot (which sings to her)。 You know, it is like a port-key。So she goes back & the old woman who runs the chocolate house and is able to help her is coshed in the head。。。 she helps the old woman heal & does h First, I had no idea what this was about, but the title intrigued me, even the cover was interesting (I like good cover art, what can I say)So this gal in 2018 is able to time travel, and she saves lives。。。 she purposely goes back to a time to save a man she fell in love with, via a chocolate pot (which sings to her)。 You know, it is like a port-key。So she goes back & the old woman who runs the chocolate house and is able to help her is coshed in the head。。。 she helps the old woman heal & does her best to save the guy she loves (who is engaged to another)。She meets an evil man and deals with him。。。。。She goes back home to 2018 to continue to help her mom run their antique shop, until the next time。 。。。more

Fun for me because it is based around a copper chocolate pot, and that just gets my attention。 Enjoyable audiobook。

"Chocolate House" is just as good as its predecessor!I love how the reader gets to know Xanthe even better! I love how Flora, Harley, and Liam have bigger roles in this installment, and I adored new character Mistress Flyte。 I hope the Spinners book is featured in more of the series!Time travel is done really well in these books, and fantasy usually isn't my genre of choice。 Yet I'm really enjoying this saga。 Beautiful covers, packed with action and adventure and romance, and a kickass, independ "Chocolate House" is just as good as its predecessor!I love how the reader gets to know Xanthe even better! I really enjoyed this fab story - a great follow on from 'The Little Shop of Found Things'。 It can be read as a stand alone read - you don't have to have read the first book to enjoy this one。 Xanthe is a 'spinner' - she can time-travel via objects that 'call' to her。 Reminds me a little of the 'Outlander / Cross Stitch' books - but love the history of the 17th century that she travels to。 I shall be reading more from this author。 I really enjoyed this fab story - a great follow on from 'The Little Shop of Found Things'。 It can be read as a stand alone read - you don't have to have read the first book to enjoy this one。 Xanthe is a 'spinner' - she can time-travel via objects that 'call' to her。 Reminds me a little of the 'Outlander / Cross Stitch' books - but love the history of the 17th century that she travels to。 I shall be reading more from this author。 。。。more

2。5 stars--somewhere between "meh" and "I liked it。"A couple things really bothered me with this book。 First, the urgency the main character did or did not feel seemed to depend on the author's sense of plotting, not how a real person would react。 Second, the villain is completely flat--no motivations, no personality, nothing except "he's evil!" (Why? How? Who knows。)Still, I read this quickly, and overall found it to be entertaining--one of those books that's a great distraction。 Like with the 2。5 stars--somewhere between "meh" and "I liked it。"A couple things really bothered me with this book。 First, the urgency the main character did or did not feel seemed to depend on the author's sense of plotting, not how a real person would react。 Second, the villain is completely flat--no motivations, no personality, nothing except "he's evil!" I am really glad that we got to go back to this world, and if you enjoyed the first novel, then you will likely enjoy this novel as well。

The singing of items continues to pull Xanthe to the seventeenth century in this sequel。 Xanthe and her mom own an antiques shop and when special items call to her she feels pulled to help。 This time she learns that she shares this talent with other Spinners and starts to gain some control of her power。 As she changes time frames, she is reminded of what is most important in each and how she can support those she loves in the present as well as answer the call for those desperate for help in the The singing of items continues to pull Xanthe to the seventeenth century in this sequel。 Xanthe and her mom own an antiques shop and when special items call to her she feels pulled to help。 This time she learns that she shares this talent with other Spinners and starts to gain some control of her power。 As she changes time frames, she is reminded of what is most important in each and how she can support those she loves in the present as well as answer the call for those desperate for help in the past。 Can she save those that need her before time is altered forever? Cannot wait for book three to come out Loved this one just as much as the first。 It is a perfect mixture or romance, mystery and excitement! I couldn’t put it down。

I would rate this more like 3。5。 A few inconsistencies when talking about her past experiences with time travel, though so far there has only been one。 I will definitely read the 3rd one to see where this is going。 Have listened to a few others by this author and the antagonist reminded me of an antagonist from one of her other books。

I'm not sure if I didn't love this book as much as the first because I read them one right after the other without a break, or if it's because life picked up, and I just didn't have as much time to sit down and really read it。 Don't get me wrong, I loved it, but I did have a harder time keeping up with the plot in this one。 Again, that could be because life just got a lot busier。 Either way, this book has reminded me of my love for antiques, and I've been doing a lot more research on them as wel I'm not sure if I didn't love this book as much as the first because I read them one right after the other without a break, or if it's because life picked up, and I just didn't have as much time to sit down and really read it。 Don't get me wrong, I loved it, but I did have a harder time keeping up with the plot in this one。 Again, that could be because life just got a lot busier。 Either way, this book has reminded me of my love for antiques, and I've been doing a lot more research on them as well as collecting since starting the series。 。。。more
